The Devil was beating his wife
We took shelter from the cloud burst
Beneath the evergreen arms of a live oak
As the lashing continued it seemed
The single golden eye leered with warm pleasure
"What does that mean, the Devil beating his wife?"
"I will tell you in the car,"
I shouted as we dashed to my father's old sedan
When the Devil paused to catch his breath
